Research & Scholarly Activity
|
|
Each resident is required to identify a project to be completed before the
end of his or her third year of training. This may take the form of a research
project or scientific paper (such as literature review), or other scholarly
project accepted by the Research Committee. The finished product should be
publishable quality or presented at the Berks County Medical Society Resident Day.
Our residency program offers a wide variety of research opportunities. Some
of our residents have chosen to do research in HIV therapy, working closely with
Dr. Christopher Woodward, our HIV specialist on staff. Quite a few have had
their research published while others have received awards in recognition of
their work.
One of our 2003 graduates, Rosalee Rehrig recently had an
article entitled A Case Of External Hydrocephalus Infant Child with Macrocephaly
published in an issue of The Berks County Medical Record. This
presentation also won her first place at the BCMS Annual Resident's Day Program.
Second place went to another St. Joseph Family Practice resident, Dr. Leslie
Lazore-Mack for her presentation entitled Childhood Acute Idiopathic
Thrombocytopenic Purpura.
