My name is Kat, and I am currently serving as one of the chief residents
here at St. Joseph Medical Center Family Practice Residency. I would first like
to thank you for your interest in our program, and I wish you all the best as you
make a decision regarding internship and residency.
I am often asked why I chose this program. As a student, I discovered that
I was attracted to both internal medicine and family practice. I completed several
rotations here during my third year of medical school and was impressed with the
hospital-based experience as well as the extensive clinic rotations. I’ve found that
our program provides a perfect combination of both of these fields resulting in broad
educational opportunities.
More importantly, the excellent faculty including attendings, nurses, and case
management provides a supportive environment for each resident. We receive
constant individual attention whether it is from an intensivist during our ICU rotation,
or our preceptors in the family practice clinic. Our staff is dedicated to teaching and
guiding each of us in an effort to expand our medical knowledge and help us grow in
confidence as new physicians.
In addition, the support and friendship I have found among the residents here
has been phenomenal. Residency is a challenging process regardless of one’s field
of concentration or location. Acquiring a support system becomes crucial, and I can’t
imagine navigating the past 2 ½ years without the encouragement of my fellow
colleagues.
Finally, I remember how daunting the decision process can be when trying to find
a program that feels right. Enjoy our new site and if I can be of any further assistance,
please don’t hesitate to contact me.
